King Vahlika / Bahlika

King Vahlika or Bahlika was the eldest Kuru who participated in the Mahabharata war. He was the uncle of Bhishma and was an atirathi. He was king of seven neighboring regions in the North Bharatvarsha and was called “Saptadhipati”. His daughter Rohini was married to Vasudev and was mother to Balarama. He was father to Somadatta and grandfather to Bhoorishrava, a great Kaurava general. He had many sons and grandsons ruling Kamboja, Gandhar, Madra, Sivi, Bahlika region. The modern “Bulkh” region is said to got its name from him. He was killed by his great grandson Bhima on night of 14th day of the Kurukshetra war.
